This renowned restaurant specializes in showcasing the very best of Scotland’s rich gastronomic heritage, with a menu designed to delight both the palate and the imagination.
The dining experience here is nothing short of exceptional. Guests are invited to savor signature dishes like the Vegetarian Haggis—a vibrant, hearty reinterpretation of a classic—and the indulgent Duck Breast, cooked to perfection, offering tender, juicy bites that melt in the mouth. The seafood options, such as the Gigha Halibut and exquisitely prepared Sea Bass, highlight the freshness of the region’s waters, while the Venison Haggis with potato purée and whisky-glazed neep on the tasting menu is a richly textured homage to local game.
Each dish is thoughtfully composed to engage all the senses: the compressed pineapple with olive oil lemon granita refreshes the palate with a bright citrusy punch, while the Dark Chocolate Cremeux offers a decadent, velvety finish to the meal. For those seeking a carefully curated pairing, the £35 Wine Flight and cocktails like the expertly crafted Espresso Martini elevate the dining journey, perfectly complementing the complex flavors on the plate.

Patrons rave about the restaurant’s balance of exquisite food and convivial atmosphere. Olga Kanapatskaya highlights the unforgettable garlic potatoes and highly recommends the corn on the cob and haggis, calling the meal “absolutely delicious.” Will Entrekin’s vivid praise for the venison burger, which inspired a spontaneous “wow” upon the first bite, speaks volumes about the quality and creativity of the menu. Even groups with discerning tastes, like those accompanied by Azraini Alfred, have left thoroughly impressed with the top-tier ingredients and unpretentious yet refined menu. This blend of exceptional cuisine, warm ambiance, and impeccable service positions the Ubiquitous Chip as a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an authentic, elevated Scottish dining experience.
For those yearning to explore a comprehensive taste of Scotland’s culinary treasures, the £60 tasting menu offers a journey through refined dishes such as charred celeriac crepe with brown shrimp and elderberry capers, creamy aged ricotta paired with sea lettuce emulsion, and Aberdeenshire lamb loin cooked with care to bring out deep, layered flavors. Each plate reveals a masterclass in ingredient-driven cooking that honors regional produce while embracing innovation.
Whether it’s a casual evening enjoying expertly paired wines at the bar or an elegant sit-down dinner beneath the glass ceiling, Ubiquitous Chip invites you to immerse yourself in a sensory celebration of Scotland’s finest tastes. This is where tradition meets creativity, and every bite tells a story that lingers long after the meal ends.
Absolutely delicious! Will definitely be coming back Garlic potatoes are to die for ! Very much recommend the corn on the cob and haggis, a must try !
Got the venison burger and it was so good I literally said "wow" on first bite. Most everything else was excellent too. Ordered a martini and the staff was super apologetic not to have olives, but it was still a lovely drink. The burger came with unexpected chips, and the wine was excellent, and it's a nice place with good atmosphere and terrific service. Highly recommended.
Brought my grandaunts and their husbands there, all have high standards for dining and everyone loved it. We all spoke highly of the place after and really enjoyed our meal. Amazing quality of ingredients and great menu yet not pretentious. Would definitely want to come back
Last night, we visited the ever popular Ubiquitous Chip and it was another great dining experience. The Chip (as it's known) is a sister business to Stravaigin (another favourite of ours) and it's recently reopened after a bit of a refurbishment. There are various spaces to enjoy including a pub and bar as well as a large multi level restaurant area. The vaulted glass cieling area is a mix of brick, iron and big green plants. It's softened by interesting artwork, especially the stairway to the bathroom. Staff are always attentive, casual in approach but knowledgable. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the crowd tends to be very local. We enjoyed torched makeral and pigeon to start. Followed by sea trout and venison. To finish our meal, the desserts (chocolate delice and fig & custard) were the highlight. Highly recommend this Ashton Lane stalwart.
27.09.25 Updated review to reply: If it's likely to not get charged £25 per person by cancelling then it should be considered changing the wording on the cancelling policy. If it is for no shows mainly (which I do understand btw). Added photo/screenshot for booking policy. Initial review: The food was amazing and the service was good too. Giving 4* because if you happen to not manage to go within less than 24h they will charge £25 per person on the booking. Which is a bit cheeky! I understand lots of people won't even bother cancelling but I would say £10 per person with maybe 12h notice it would be understanding.
Fabulous Sunday lunch at the chip. Lots of great food on the menu. The staff made sure our family gathering was a great experience. Restaurant was very busy, but there were no delays in our service. Wine and drinks selections were great too.
Terrific selection and all very tasty items. But what makes it really stand out - the people Staff made this a special evening by just taking extra step in making us comfortable. We came half across the globe to this city and this place just made it a great evening.
I don’t recall where the recommendation came from, but it was suggested to try the tasting menu, especially for those who are looking to have a culinary experience that highlights the elevated Scottish cuisine. Locally sourced foods backed by the amazing ambience and atmosphere give an amazing authentic atmosphere and experience. Would highly recommend to anyone who has one restaurant to try while in Glasgow.
